Story

The Title Track off our first CD! This one was actually written as an exercise to teach students how to improvise over changes in different keys. when thinking of songs for Deborah to sing, I liked the easy bossa quality, similar to Jobim...the song is not nearly as harmonically elaborate as a Jobim composition but it just has that quality to my ears, tempo, romanticism, etc.

Story

This tune was originally written as an instrumental, and entitled Larry Leaps In...a tribute to my teacher and Philly legend Larry McKenna!

Story

I wrote a series of instrumental tunes inspired by Rudyard Kiplings Jungle Book. This one was originally title Messua's Door and refers to Mogli's return to the village where and the door of his mother, and then his disillusionment with man. When asked to write lyrics for Deborah, I still used the door theme, and it tells the sad story of a couple and what could have been, but now we'll never know.

Story

This was written specifically for the album, and was just a playful song written from the point of view of a flirtatious sultry jazz singer (played by Deborah Billups!). Many fo the songs were easy for me to write lyrics for in that regard...i almost felt as if I were writing for a character in a play. The music is a jazzy blues progression, similar to a song from Disney's Aristocats...my favorite Disney movie as a kid...I still think everybody wants to be a cat! Enjoy!
