***The Acoustic Groove Project*** - Exploring and Expanding Musical Sounds

Dave Renz leads The Acoustic Groove Project - an ensemble committed to the exploration of the sound of traditional jazz defined through the Caribbean, Latin American, and Urban groove of today's music. The combination creates a sound that is fresh, soulful, and unique. When you watch and listen to The Acoustic Groove Project, you're confronted with the harmony of opposites; youth with experience; contemporary with traditional; form with freedom; energy with elegance. Inspired by the simple structure and warm colors of Cuban jazz, the Acoustic Groove Project plays with an East Coast edge. Their sound is funky, bluesy, and full of life.

About The Acoustic Groove Project: Dave Renz has been playing saxophone professionally on the East Coast since the early 1990s. He writes, arranges and records with some of the top players in the area, and has performed at the Berks Jazz Fest and Musik Fest on multiple occasions. Jeff Holden is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music. His musical experiences include a variety of styles, including jazz, rock, and world music.

The group is rounded out by some of the top players in the Philly scene!  The original CD, Sub-tropic Topics featured some amazing players in their jazz debut:  Jeff Holden, on drums, a graduate and current employee at Berklee College of Music.  Greg Orlando started performing with us on bass as a high school student and is a grad assistant at the University of Toronto.  Dan Orlando was the original keyboard "sound" of the AGP, and still makes appearances with us when he is not off enjoying a successful solo pop career, and doing session work in NYC.

Our 2nd CD, Plugged In, features some additions to the mix!  It features a return to more traditional jazz compositions, but with an electric edge.  We are blessed with the talents of NYC drummer, Josh Bailey on drums, throughout the CD. Ryan Connors expands our sound playing percussion, keys, and vibes on various tracks.  Walt "Keys" Runge adds an artistic flare on piano, and Joe Anderson, a dynamic instrumentalist from UARTS, Philadelphia, plays trumpet, flugel and EVI.  Greg Orlando continues to hold things down on bass, and Dan Orlando adds his soulful sound on electric piano.

Special thanks to all those who have shared their talents with us in live performances, including Art Stephano, Rob Swanson, Tony Forliano, and Dave Mohn!
